Social Events
Women’s organizations like the Kentucky Woman’s Memorial Association and the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UCD) helped women outside of the Lost Cause movement. Women found friendship and social connections through these groups. The organizations became a community and family for the members. The Southern women typically shared a similar economic status, common locality, and beliefs. Individuals created social events and their UCD chapters then hosted the occasion. Some example of social events held by the Ghent, Kentucky UDC Tom Barrett Chapter included a dahlia flower show and a poultry show. Between meetings and social events, women’s Lost Cause organizations kept ladies busy and active in their communities.
